Annabel Williams: Contemporary Photographic Training

We love these guys and I’m sure that I sound like a stuck record from time to time but if it wasn’t for these lovely people based in Staveley near Kendal in the Lake District – We wouldn’t  be who we are today. They gave us such a leg up a few years ago in getting our business established. Now it is a real pleasure to come back and be one of their trainers. Last year we were involved in a couple of course ran by CPT and now we have some new dates for anybody who is interested in developing their photography further. Be warned though these courses sell out really fast so if you are keen then you will need to contact the studio. Click here for more information to book the courses.

The courses take place in their new purpose built state of the art studios in the Lake District and are an amazing place to come to get inspired.

The first course this year is : CREATE AN AMAZING WEDDING PORTFOLIO

What you need to to do is know your way around your camera as this is not suitable for beginners but for photographers who have a wedding business or just starting out in one but may not have enough images in your portfolio to secure that crucial client.
The day will go like this:

Two trainers; a stunning location and numerous brides and grooms and pre-wedding couples to model all in one day!  Away from the traditional church setting, we focus on the happy couple both before and on the big day to provide you with a new set of images that will sell themselves!  If your wedding portfolio is in need of some attention this is the seminar for you.

The day starts with Jane Breakell giving an insight into what makes a strong portfolio, to include image type, range and structure.  Jane has worked alongside Annabel Williams for over fifteen years and her expertise in this area precedes her.

Following this, we will guide you through both a pre wedding shoot and one with a bride and groom to enable you to see how the theory is put into practice.  During this time you will also have the opportunity to capture images of your own.

With your newfound knowledge you will embark on an intensive afternoon of shooting in the beautiful Lake District.  Working in small groups of two or three with the support of us you will take control of the models yourself and their location and composition. The result – a powerful new range of images to create the ultimate wedding portfolio and marketing tool!

you will learn and discover…

How to structure and present your wedding portfolio
How to select images to match your position in the marketplace
Ways to structure a shoot to provide a range of images
How to select backgrounds and photographic locations
How to compose couples and brides and grooms
The ideal balance of images in your portfolio

This course is being run twice this year: Monday 12th April & Monday 4th October     Cost: £295 + vat

Check out these images below of images from a similar course last year.

Also I am involved with the course : ALL ABOUT WEDDINGS – 2nd to 4th June Cost: £695 + vat

This is a three day intensive course in helping give you the complete package to equip you with all the photographic and business skills you will need not only to run a successful wedding photography business, but also to set you above the rest.

A fantastic event that will show you how to raise your game when it comes to the complete wedding package, this course will give you the knowledge and confidence to improve not only your own experience of capturing weddings beautifully but, more importantly, the experience of the happy couple.

Day 1: Marketing -how to use effective techniques to market your business effectively, particularly when working to a tight budget. We will also guide you on how to network pro-actively and with whom.

Day 2: Pre-Wedding & Wedding Photography – This is a day with me discussing the structure of how we approach both the Pre-Wedding shoot but also the Wedding itself. This part of the course is very much hands on and we will have a couple to photograph a pre-wed with in the morning and then another couple shooting the various stages of the wedding day.

Day 3: Sales – Jane & Catherine will take you through the whole sales process with a client to help increase your income without without losing sight of the client relationship and the reputation of the business.

2010 – It’s going to be another great year.

Happy New Year to everyone. We are now back in the saddle after taking a few days off over Christmas & New Year. I hope Santa came with what you wanted and that people didn’t consume too much alcohol over New Year. We have some amazing weddings lined up this year which we are really looking forward to. I love the start of the year. It is great to look down the list of people we are going to meet and places we are going to go to. The journey that we go on each year really excites me. We have already done our first wedding of the year – Laila & Simon over in York. We will post some images in the next couple of days along with the last two weddings we did in 2009.

All About Weddings: Training in the Lakes

Monday & Tuesday I was up at Annabel Williams studio to speak on a course ‘ All About Weddings’ There were 14 photographers all wanting to gain experience on how to do develop their own wedding business. I love meeting new photographers who all have a passion for photography and it is great to share ideas and knowledge. Far to often you meet people who are quite defensive about their business and are unwilling to share. I don’t know if they feel it is a threat but for me the best thing is to talk about our experiences good and bad. This is how we learn and get better at what we do. When I first started out with our photography business we met some fab photographers who were happy to talk about setting up and developing their business so it is great a few years down the line that we are now helping out people who are at the start of the journey.

Most of Tuesday was taken up with actual shoots. In the morning we did a pre wedding shoot with Gemma and Tim, a great couple who were fantastic models. I’ve mentioned before how important I feel the pre-wedding shoot is, and it was great to share some tips with the guys on the course. Simple things like chatting with and posing the clients – anything to get them to relax in from of the camera and build up a rapport.

Then after lunch we had two new models Adam & Nicole who were dressed up to the nines in their finery. For a couple of hours we went through the simple steps of the wedding day – bridal preparations, detail shots, groom at the church, the arrival of the bride, inside he church, leaving and confetti shots and finally the all important couple sots. It was great to show people that the couple shots are pretty much a replication of the pre-wedding shots, so the couple know how we work and what to expect. Another great reason for the pre-wed.  See some of the shots below and click here for the full slideshow -> SLIDESHOW

We finished the day back at the studio for some Q&A – I’ve never been bombarded with so many questions, but it was fantastic and I think I managed to answer them all!

As I mentioned, I’m always more than happy to share my experiences, so if anyone out there has any questions or would like to bend my ear about photography then please get in touch – it would be great to hear from you!
