Laura & James: Wedding 20th September 2009

lajablog-058

My second wedding of the weekend had me at two fantastic locations for Laura & Jamie’s wedding. This time I was again joined by Rob, who I have to give a massive thanks to for a) helping up out recently at a few weddings where Lou has been unable to come along and b) for getting some a-maz-ing images. A few of the images I’ve posted up here are courtesy of him, so thanks again, mate.

Anyway, back to the wedding. The ceremony was at Fountains Abbey, a drop dead gorgeous bit of history in the middle of some stunning countryside. The ceremony itslef was in Fountains Hall (a bit more complete than the abbey itself – it has a roof for starters!) and this is where Rob met up with the boys for their early shots. The reception was to be held at the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate and I met Laura and the girls there for their preparations. Laura looked amazing in her beautiful princess dress.

The ceremony was quite early, and straight afterwards guests spilled out for a tea party on the lawn which was a fantastic opportunity for photographs. The weather was gorgeous again, and having had a good few years of weddings now under our belt, I think I can say that September is generally pretty much the safest bet for dry and sunny weather.

We had a good couple of hours to spend in the grounds of the abbey and it was just brilliant to be able to take Laura and Jamie off for some couple shots in the ruins (although it was pretty busy with tourists. We managed to chase them all away though!!!) Laura and Jamie were a dream couple to work with and were really keen to spend time with us and I think we got some amazing shots as a result.

Then it was back to the Majestic for the rest of the day where Laura and Jamie had laid on a lavish buffet for their guests. Dancing into the night rounded off a perfect day.

Laura and Jamie, it was such a pleasure to be with you on your wedding day. Thanks so much for including us in your plans – we’ll see you soon!

Sarah & Mark: Wedding 19th September 2009

samawed-189

More weddings this weekend!! I’ll blog Sunday’s wedding in a day or two, but first up was Sarah & Mark’s wedding on Saturday. Sarah & Mark live in London but chose to marry in Sarah’s home town of York, and on a gorgeous day like Satuday was there really is no place better.

Sarah chose not to have her preparations photographed, so I met up with the boys who were having a pre-wedding lunch at the Blue Bicycle. Then it was a walk across the city to St. Wilfrid’s Catholic church where the ceremony was taking place. It’s an amazing church, and Sarah & Mark’s priest had travelled up from London specially to perform the service.

The church is just a stones throw from the Minster, so on a sunny Saturday it was obviously pretty teeming with people around the entrance. Sarah & Mark’s guests all looked amazingly smart and stylish and quite a crowd of onlookers began to form. By the time Sarah arrived we had a huge audience of hundreds of people all armed with cameras. I felt like the paparazzi at a premier, and Sarah certainly looked the part in her stunning vintage wedding gown.

After the ceremony it was but a short walk in the sunshine to the reception venue, St. William’s College, stopping off on the way for some shots of friends, family and of course the happy couple in the Minster gardens.

The wedding breakfast room had been beautifully decorated, and after much champagne, merriment, great food, fab speeches and a first dance amidst a shower of multi coloured confetti, it was time to leave everyone to  party on into the night.

Sarah & Mark, it was a privilege to join you for your celebrations. We wish you much love and happiness for your future together.

Phil & Lou xx

Samantha & Paul : Wedding 12th September

sapa-031

We were on the other side of the pennines again on Saturday for Samantha & Paul’s wedding near Blackburn. We were so lucky with the weather as it turned out to be a bit of a scorcher. Fantastic for Sam & Paul, but a bit tricky photography-wise!

Both Sam & Paul were getting ready at their reception venue, the gorgeous Stanley House Hotel, so it was fun watching Paul scuttle into the gents to avoid seeing his wife to be as she arrived with her entourage! Stanley House is a new venue to us, but one we’d love to work at again. It’s just the kind of place we like working in with stunning contemporary interiors, pretty gardens and beautiful sweeping vistas over the hills.

Anyway, once everyone was in their finery it was off to the nearby St. Peter’s church for the ceremony. It’s another beautiful church – we’ve worked in so many lovely ones recently. After that, Sam and Paul piled into an amazing open top Rolls Royce for their journey back to Stanley House, and after drinks, confetti and photos in the sunshine it was time for the wedding breakfast.

The room looked stunning and Sam & Paul (well, Sam really I think!) had put so much thought and effort into decorating the tables – it looked really magical. After an evening reception involving limbo dancing and a Village People tribute by 5 of Paul’s mates, I left everyone having a blast and tootled off back home.

Sam & Paul, we had such a fantastic time t your wedding. We’re looking forward to catching up with you again soon.

Best wishes

Phil & Lou xx

Temple Works – The Final Days: Stills

3bmedia-017

Back at the end of August we got involved with Temple Works when they put out a call for local artists and creatives to come and record the building before it started its transition into a centre for the arts in 2010/2011. So RobBarns and myself as 3B Media spent the day capturing the detail and feel of the place using stills and video. Barns spent most of the day capturing video on his Canon 5D mkII. This is a remarkable camera that allows capture in High Def. Rob & I went looking for the little details that people might miss while walking around the site. From this we have put together a video which you can see below which we think has captured the mood of Temple Works just before it makes its transition into a new life.

The video and a body of images take from this day and the model shoot we did the following have been submitted for consideration for an exhibition that will take place at Temple Works from the 9th to 16th October as part of Light Night in Leeds. I will keep you up to date if we have been successful.

Emma & Steve: Wedding 5th September

emstblog-006

Our first September wedding this year was with Emma & Steve. I was joined again by my partner in crime Rob Booker who is becoming a bit of a fixture at the moment. He’s great to have around at weddings and it helps that he’s also an amazing photographer!!

Anyway, we both went over to Emma’s house for photos of her getting ready – she really looked amazing in her stunning wedding dress. The guys didn’t want pics of their preparations so Rob joined them a little later at the church just before their ceremony.

It was a lovely ceremony and the church, St. James in Crossgates was amazing. The beautiful high vaulted ceiling inside made for some amazing photos, and the laid back vicar was very kind to us and placed very few restrictions on photos during the ceremony which was great.

Then it was back to Woodlands Hotel for the reception. We hadn’t worked there for a few months, so it was great to be back. As usual the marquee looked stunning, and the sun came out so we were able to make the most of the lovely grounds for photos.

The speeches were great, in particular Nick, the best man’s. Rather than regaling everyone with tales of Steve’s drunken antics, he just produced a series of disparate objects, each one innocent enough, but each attached to an incriminating story which he promised to tell to anyone interested (or brave) enough to ask him about later. I never did ask him, so some of the speech pictures below may relate to some tale of bizarre debauchery – I just don’t know…

Anyway, we’d like to wish Emma and Steve all the best for their future together and thanks guys for an ace day.

Phil & Lou xx
