Kate & Paul: Wedding 23rd August 2009

kapablog-001

Our second wedding this weekend saw us up early on Sunday and whizzing down the M1 to deepest Derbyshire for Kate & Paul’s wedding. We were joined my my partner in U2-crime, Rob Booker who came with me to Kate’s parents’ house for the girls’ preparations. Meanwhile Lou was more than holding her own with 18 (count ‘em) guys enjoying the mother of all fry-ups in a cafe bar in Derby. She was a bit intimidated and overwhelmed by the testosterone initially, but soon relaxed when everyone stripped down to their pants to get changed into their wedding togs (please note, this was back at Paul’s flat, not in the restaurant….) For obvious reasons we’ll draw a veil over photos of that part of the day for blog-viewing purposes….

Anyway, after that everyone headed over to Shottle Hall where everything was happening. It’s a beautiful venue – a contemporary feel inside an old manor house in the middle of stunning countryside. The boys arrived in style in an understated stretch Range Rover, then the girls in rather more classic cars. I have to say Kate looked amazing. I think radiant is the word – stunning.

After the emotional ceremony, it was time for drinks and photos outside. The weather was gorgeous and warm, but quite cloudy so we managed to get some ace Wuthering Heights style shots with a big brooding sky.

Kate & Paul, thanks again for inviting us to be part of your day – we’ll see you soon.

Lou & Phil xx

Clare & Phil: Wedding 22nd August 2009

clphblog-001

What an ace weekend we had. Two amazing weddings in the sunshine. Could it get any better?

First up was Clare & Phil on Saturday. We picked up this wedding after we shot Kathryn & James’s wedding last year – Kath is Phil’s cousin. It’s so fantastic when we get work via recommendations, and it was just lovely to see Kath & James again on Saturday (hi guys!!)

Anyway, we were up bright and early for the drive over to Harrogate where everything was happening. As usual I recorded the goings-on at Clare’s preparations whilst Lou got to hang around with the guys (she loves this job – can’t think why!!) The ceremony was very special as it was at the chapel of Clare’s old school, St John Fisher’s, so it had great personal significance. The school choir was on hand to lend back-up to the hymns which made it extra tingly in the church.

After photos in the sunshine around the school grounds, Clare and Phil were whisked off to their reception in Dylan, a very cute and amazingly restored vintage VW camper van. Of course this was a dream opportunity photo-wise so we went a bit mad with pictures at this point…

The reception was held at Oakdale Golf Club, a beautiful setting for yet more photos with long sweeping vistas of the 18th (or possibly the 1st) in the background.

We had such a fantastic time at Clare and Phil’s wedding – it was another of those days where everything just goes right and everyone is walking round in a happy bubble. Clare & Phil will be in Barcelona at the moment but we’re looking forward to meeting up with them after the wedding to relive the day.

U2 – Don Valley Stadium

u2-004

U2 Rolled into Sheffield tonight for their only gig outside of London in England. We have been working quite hard as The Sound Gallery to get press passes for this event and at 12.15 pm just 8 hours before the gig was due to start we got the green light. I will post later on this week with more information and images. Needless to say it was an amazing show and here are few of the images as taster. Also a big up to Mr Rob Booker who thought he was going to have a quiet afternoon editing images when I told him I has a spare pass. Check  out his blog later for more images.

iPhone Images

Today I was out and about with Rob & Barns looking at locations around Leeds for our next project under the 3B Media banner we have created for ourselves. One of the best places we visited was Temple Mill in Leeds which is about to go through a major regeneration and we had a guided tour around in hard hats at this amazing place. Take a look at some of the images below taken on my iPhone.

The iphone is a great device to have but one of the biggest issues that people say it has is the size of the camera. Now I’m running an old school iPhone with only a 2 mega whatsits camera but today I spent all day shooting with it to see what results I would come up with. Today all people seem to care about is how big is yours and does yours have this feature on it. With the Canon 5D’s that we use to shoot at weddings I shoot manual and  switch as many of the bells and whistles off as possible. So it was nice to get into a point a shoot press situation. It just leaves you to worry about composition.

But for me today was also just capturing moments. When I was back home drinking a nice glass of something refreshing the sky was looking amazing and it was great just to pick up the iPhone and shoot. Chase Jarvis is a photographer in Seattle and one of his projects at the moment is to take a photo everyday on his iPhone and some of the work is amazing. He comments on the fact “The best camera is the one you have on you” – which for me and most iPhone owners is all the time!

Stephanie & Darren: Wedding 14th August 2009

couple-001

I LOVE days like Friday. We were with Stephanie & Darren for their wedding and we had such a blast. Steph & Darren have had a bit of a tough time this year, but all that seemed forgotten for their celebrations, and a happier wedding I really can’t remember photographing.

It all started off for me at Steph’s parents’ home for the girlie prep while Lou went to Weetwood Hall with the boys. Then we all met up at St. Paul’s Catholic church for the beautiful ceremony conducted by Steph’s family priest. Then it was back to Weetwood for much merriment and larks. Steph & Darren have a fantastic bunch of friends who helped make the day such a special one. It was a real gift to us to have such a great bunch of people to photograph – we didn’t once have to ask people to ‘smile!!’

Check out a few of the choicest pics below. Stephanie & Darren – you were fantastic to work with and we know that your future will be filled with happiness and lots of lurve.
