Debbie & Jonathan: Wedding 27th February 2009

deri-218

Debbie & Jonathan’s special day was held at the beautiful Swinton Park in North Yorkshire. After all the snow we had at the beginning of February, which seemed to stay around for a long time, the thought of shooting this wedding knee deep in snow had crossed my mind. But as I drove up to this beautiful part of the world we had our first taste of spring. The snow had gone and it felt really mild. What a day for a wedding!

Debbie spent the morning getting ready in the Turret suite which has an amazing bathroom. After meeting up Debbie I spent some time walking round the hotel getting some detail shots when I noticed Jonathan sat on sofa in a quite corner. He was probably the most relaxed groom I have come across just a few hours before the wedding. The ceremony was a small intemate occasion in the Panelled Room of the hotel.

Afterwards we went outside to do some couple shots – It was warm enough (Just!) judging by the goose bumps on Debbie’s arms it wasn’t that warm – but we managed to get some great shots of them and Swinton in the background.

The couple had their reception in the Library which was decked out in a beautiful array of flowers. Speeches followed and then everyone retired to the cosy corners of the hotel to relax drink and play board games. It was a real privilege to be part of the day and to capture the day for Debbie & Jonathan.

Jess & Rob: Pre-Wedding Shoot 28th February 2009

jeropw-036

I met up with Jess & Rob in the centre of York early on a Saturday morning back at the end of February. We arrange to meet outside the Treasurer’s House which is just behind the Minster. It is a lovely building with great history and is the place Jess & Rob have decided to get married. I always like to go and visit new locations that we haven’t photographed at before to get a feel of the place and its surroundings. Also it’s great to listen to ideas that the clients have regarding how they would like their day captured.

After visiting the Treasurer’s House it was back to modern day life to have a coffee at Starbucks. We chatted about what we were going to do on the shoot and to calm any fears that Jess & Rob might have. Then we were off – starting around some quite parts of York but we finished in the centre of Stonegate – a busy shopping street in the centre of York.

After an hour or so it was back to Starbucks to discuss their wedding day in more detail. I use these opportunities to learn how the day will flow, who the key people are and to get a real feel of the day.

The Sound Gallery

picture-10

This is a side project that I have set up with fellow Leeds photographer Barnaby Aldrick. Both of have our own separate wedding photography businesses but also we both have a passion for live music and music photography in general. Over the last 12 months we have undertaken a few commissions for local bands, covered a number of live events including the Leeds Festival last summer. Over the winter we have been putting a bit more structure into developing this further so the we have put together a separate website and blog for you to follow us on our travels. There will be a link at the top of  this blog to ‘The Sound Gallery’. If anything major happens with the ‘TSG’ like U2 ask us to cover their next tour ! :-) then I will post it here but otherwise all posts will be on the TSG Blog.

Caroline & Richard: Pre-Wedding shoot 28th February 2009

caripw-005

I did a great pre-wedding shoot on the last weekend of February at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (yes, I know I’ve been there many times before – I’ll go there many times again as its such an inspiring location).

I met up with Caroline & Richard who are getting married in May at  Ripley Church and then over the road to the fabulous Ripley Castle. The weather was kinder to us and they was a slight feeling that spring might be in the air.

Anyway, it was great to get to know Caroline & Richard a bit better – they were fantastic models and really good company. I’m really looking forward to their wedding. Here are a few pictures from the shoot….

gastpw-0021

As promised here is the first of the 3 pre-wedding shoots we have done recently. We go back to the end of January with Gayle & Stephen at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, one of my favourite locations.

Gayle and Stephen are getting married in just a couple of weeks, and it was great to get to know them a bit better. I think they had a good time too!
