Focus on Imaging 2009 – NEC Birmingham

col

Well it is that time of year again when you know the new year is in full swing. One of the first major events of the year for photographers is the SWPP conference in London. This is swiftly followed by Focus on Imaging at the NEC Birmingham which starts this Sunday. It goes on for 4 days and is an opportunity for people like me to go and play with all the new gadgets and technology. Lou always packs me off with that “Off you go dear! I’m sure it is very important?”

Seriously though if you are an enthusiast or full professional it is an opportunity to see and meet new people and companies who are fully involved in the industry. For me it is a great chance to get together will old friends from around the country and share our thoughts and experiences from the last year and what people think are going to influence the industry in the coming 12 months. This also usually involves a couple of glasses of the amber nectar.

There is 3 or 4 of us going on the Tuesday and if your about then and see some strange blokes from Yorkshire be sure to say hello.

Last year we spent some time on the Annabel Williams Studio stand ‘Contemporary Photographic Training. If you going and are thinking of starting a career in photography make sure you pays these guys a visit. Catherine Connor and Jane Breakell are renowned for their business development, training and motivation skills. They have transformed the lives of many. They help Lou & I establish ourselves a few years ago and now we are one of their speakers encouraging new people just starting off.

Development 2009

picture-5We are getting a little bit excited round here at Barber Towers!  We are just 9 days away from launching the new branding and style that will take us into 2009 and beyond.
The current style has been with us for about 4 years now and has stood us in good stead. But as we develop the business and move onto new and exciting areas we felt that we needed a new style that would reflect this.

The new website is nearing completion and the new blog is all set. There are going to be some interesting developments through the year but stage one will be on the 1st of March when we unveil the new website and blog.
So make sure you keep popping back over the next few days as we slowly reveal little bits of what we are doing.

Ellen & the Escapades

So I have hooked up with Barnaby Aldrick to start putting some promtional images together for an excellent new band coming out of Leeds – Ellen & the Escapades. Formed in early 2008 the band are fronted by Ellen Smith with Chris on Keys, Jeff on Guitar, James on Drums and finally Andy on Bass. They have been working hard to the release of their first single ‘Without You’ in May. The song can be heard on their Myspace page. If you want to check them out live they will be playing at the Cockpit in Leeds on the 13th March. It will be well worth the £4 entrance.

In the meantime take a look at some of the initial shots that we have create for them.

Sally & Sam: Pre-Wedding 24th January 2009

So a couple of weekends ago it was down to London for our second pre-wedding shoot of the year. Sally & Sam are based up here in Yorkshire but fancied doing the pre-wedding shoot in London – so it was on the train early to Kings Cross and we met up on the the South Bank next to Tate Modern. There was no snow at this point but I have to say it was freezing and Sally & Sam were real troppers as we spent our time walking down to Tower Bridge and then back long the Tower of London. We stopped and had coffee across the road from Pudding Lane. I had to take some pictures of the Great Fire of London monument because my daughter is studying about it at school.

After a long chat about the wedding and life in general we got on the tube to Piccadilly Circus to finish off doing some shots around there. Then it was back to Kings Cross for me but Sally & Sam went back to their hotel ready for  nice meal out and to see a show. It’s great to see that romance is still alive and kicking.

We are looking forward to their wedding at the end of April because they are having their wedding at the Wentbridge Hotel which is the same place that Lou & I had our wedding reception almost 13 years ago.

anyway I’m glad you had a great time and we will see you in April.

Hazlewood Castle Wedding Fair

Today we’re at the Hazlewood Castle wedding fair. It’s another gorgeous venue and one we love working at.

If you’re planning on braving the weather and coming along to the wedding fair this weekend please come and say hello – we’re very friendly!!

It’s great to get these wedding fairs in now while its still early on in the year. As soon as spring starts it’s pretty much non stop with weddings most weekends. It’s a good job we love it so much!

Take a look at a couple of highlight slideshows from some weddings we did at Hazlewood Catle last year.
