Last Sunday evening was spent down at the Verve Bar in Leeds to listen to some grizzly, gravelly goodness – bluesy, random and interesting music. Matt D’Albert was the MC for the night as Barnaby was drinking large quantities of beer somewhere in Eastern Europe!
We had three bands for the night – below are details for each one. Check out their Myspace pages to have a listen. If you get a chance to check them out in the future you won’t be disappointed.
Troy Faid: http://www.myspace.com/troyfaid
Troy Faid is one of many local artists who’s reputation is steadily growing at the moment. Off the back of an ace 10 track CD Troy delivers bittersweet, passionate blues and folk, fused to damn skill guitar picking. Once you see Troy live there is no doubting his command of his art.
Grizzly Bare http://www.myspace.com/grizzlybare
Concisely put on their myspace, Grizzly Bare make “tunes and stuff played on instruments with drums and that and a bloke who sings kind a like one of them band things what plays at clubs and venues and the like”. Esoteric nutbars Dan & Fletch bang all sorts of mad stuff together and the net result is actually an inviting, entertaining sound overlaid with clever melodies and lyrics. Hints of Micky P Kerr and all that’s good about the arctic monkeys and even a bit of Noah & The Whale.
Team A vs Team B: http://www.myspace.com/teamavsteamb
These kids deliver a newly evolved acoustic sound augmented by double bass, mandolin and a melodica. TAvsTB are pimping a delightful 6 track EP and are being backed by indie upstarts Telefonic Records. Catch these guys sharpish.
