Flowers*

Being in the wedding industry we work with a huge number of different suppliers. From chair covers to stationery to casinos, we’ve met so many great people dedicated (like we are) to making a couple’s special day perfect. So I thought I’d start a series of shout outs for some great suppliers whose work we love.

First up we’d like to mention flowers* (the * is intentional!!) They, like us, are a husband and wife team, Nick and Wendy, and we’ve worked with them a few times over the last two years. It’s always been a pleasure, and their work is so fantastic to photograph. I may be OK at taking pictures of flowers but I don’t know enough latin to write in detail about the stunning floral designs, so I’ll let my pictures and Wendy and Nick’s designs do the talking!!

New Canon 5D MkII

OK so Canon have finally pulled the wraps off the Canon 5D MkII which we seemed to have been waiting to appear for ages. The original 5D which is the main camera that Lou & I both use – has been around since August 2005. Still great but in the world of technology getting a bit long in the tooth. Anyway checkout Canon’s website for the specs. Also there has been a great review on Digital Photography Review.

One feature that seems to have been added to a lot of digital SLR’s is Full HD 1080 movie recording. Now this is something I have not considered before and maybe just a gimmic. But if you check out Vincent Laforet site out you will see an amazing short video that was filmed using the new 5D in full HD 1080. Click on the image below to check it out. What is stunning for me is how the camera has handled the low light. Also check out Vincent’s blog to see a short video on what went on behind the scenes. Can’t wait to get my hands on one and start trying it out. Price for the new body is £2300.

Yvette & Christopher: Wedding 21st September 2008

On Sunday I was joined by my good mate and fellow photographer John Archibald for Yvette & Chris’s wedding. The weather was absolutely glorious all day – probably the best we’ve seen all summer.

We started off over in North Newbald in east Yorkshire. It’s where Yvette & Chris live, and the ceremony was in their local church. John joined the guys in the pub while I spent some time with Yvette and the girls getting ready. After a beautiful service it was a lovely drive through the countryside to the reception at Wood Hall Hotel in Linton near Wetherby. It was a fantastic atmosphere all day, and the evening was rounded off by dancing and music from an amazing band performing some classic soul and motown tracks.

It was such a joy to spend the day with Yvette, Chris and their guests, some of whom had travelled from overseas to be with them. Thanks so much for inviting us to share your day – we wish you every happiness for your future together.

Distill Magazine

I’m always on the lookout for new and fresh ideas to inspire our photography. One such area is glossy fashion magazines which can come up with new and innovative ways of shooting. The trouble is I have found myself flicking through loads in Borders to find just one article that grabs my attention and what about all those magazines across the world that we don’t even get to see.

Well Lou found about this new magazine that has just been published. The whole idea of it is to look at fashion and style magazines across the world and then publish what they think is the best from each between the covers of their magazine. The launch issue is out now for £4.95. If you are interested in the latest fashion photography or  just want to get something that will give fresh ideas then this is definitely worth a look.

Check out the website DISTILL or next time your in Borders take a look.

Julie & Peter: Wedding 13th September 2008

On Saturday we found ourselves at Rudding Park for Julie & Peter’s wedding. We were blessed with some fantastic weather. Some of the best we have had all summer and we are now in mid September. This wedding had a really nice relaxed feel about it all day. Both Julie and Peter got ready in different parts of the venue. As usual Lou followed the boys and I stayed with the girls. They came together at the chapel which was a stunning setting for the blessing. Everyone had a great time during the day leading up to some serious dancing and party games involving hula hoops in the evening.

Julie & Peter thank you for letting us be part of such a great day and we will see you when you get back of honeymoon. Phil & Lou xx
